Skova is the luxury accessory brand created by Michaela Moryskova, whose travels and life experiences have been the inspiration behind each piece she creates. Moryskova was born in the Czech Republic during the communist years, and fled as a young child with her mother to Europe and the US for a dream of freedom. She was always designing and creating, and had an artistic mind, viewing the world around her in fantastic ways.
Upon finishing school, she found herself modeling and traveling the world. During one of her travels, she found herself in Swaziland, where she learned wild life photography while on Safari. From there, she went to Zimbabwe and Botswana for an AIDS relief program. It is these destinations, and adventures, and so many more that have been the backdrop to her collection. One of my favorite themes present throughout much of her collection is serpents and snakes, which is displays in a beautifully elegant fashion that is glamorous and funky at the same time. With Skova, she is able to share her adventures the way they play out in her world to a large audience of consumers that have become huge fans of the brand.
Seeing the collection, the snakes had me awe-struck. From bags to jewels, there is a beautiful sense of exotic femininity that bounds throughout the line. The multi-finger rings are stunners, and you would be shocked at how easily your fingers move in them. The leather cuffs are animalistic, with a rough and tough flair. Skova is a line that is easily worn on its own, as each piece makes such a statement, but pair them with other items for an over-the-top “wow” factor that will leave everyone asking you where you found your fantastic accessories.
Michaela’s humanitarian work is a large part of the Skova brand. She has seen some of the biggest travesties in the world, and really tuned in to how important it is for young children to have a chance, and to be able to grow up in live normal, healthy lives. Michaela’s mission supports this goal. First, she gives back to the country that gave her freedom, and makes all of her products in the USA. She also helps impoverished areas like Africa and Costa Rica, and for every Skova piece that is purchased, a percentage goes to food for these areas, giving children a full-balanced, healthy diet. As the line grows, Michaela wants the philanthropic portion of her line to grow as well, so there is no telling how far it will go, but looking at the collection, and its absolute refined sophistication, I’d imagine pretty far, because I don’t know one girl that wouldn’t fall over looking at these awe-inspiring pieces. Michaela is a supporter of global fashion giving back to the world, and it just makes us love her even more.
Seriously, snakes are just plain hot. Cleopatra made them sultry and a statement many years ago, and the trend has never gone away. They give any look a sexy edge of vavoom, which we could all use in our lives.
